Mickey Hawks with Moon Mullins and his Night Riders - Bip Bop Boom / Rock and Roll Rhythm

Mickey Hawks had a hit with "Bip Bop Boom", deservedly so. It is rocking, as is the b-side "Rock and Roll Rhythm".

The Bermudas - Donnie / Chu Sen Ling

Finding records like this single from The Bermudas is the reason dudes like me dig. Though a-side "Donnie" is a good tune, the flip "Chu Sen Ling" is one of my FAVORITES. Hope you like it too.

The Wanderers Three - Cry I Do / Toro

A little bit of folk dramatics from The Wanderers Three. Side A, "Cry I Do", is a sad number with nice harmonies. I prefer the B, "Toro", a rousing ditty about a bull and the woman who hates him.

Duane Eddy - Ring of Fire / Bobbie

Heyo, and apologies to the millions of you who've waited a month and some change for an update. I wish to reward your patience tonight with two songs from the K'ang of Twang, Duane Eddy. From 1961, "Ring of Fire" and the flip "Bobbie". The labels look a little ragged, but the sound quality for both sides is pretty sharp!

The Leaves - Hey Joe / Funny Little World

The Leaves go in the record book as the first rock band to record "Hey Joe", though I'm pretty sure this (rather static-y) version is not that. Instead, this is a reworked take that hit #1 back in the day. It reminds me of the Love version. The b side "Funny Little World" is a psych pop gem. My copy is a lot cleaner on the flip than the hit side.

L. C. Cooke - Do You Wanna Dance (Yea Man) / I'll Wait For You

L.C. Cooke is Sam Cook's brother. He lives a half-hour away from me. Neat! Side A, "Do You Wanna Dance (Yea Man)" makes you wanna do just that. "I'll Wait For You" is a sweet soul beaut.

Jerry Wallace - There She Goes / Angel On My Shoulder

"There She Goes" was a moderate hit for Jerry Wallace back in 1960. Personally I prefer the b side "Angel On My Shoulder".

Clyde McPhatter - Lover Please / Let's Forget About the Past

When was the last time you heard Clyde McPhatter on oldies radio? Never? Shame on them. "Lover Please" is hand clapping, foot stomping, perfect pop. "Let's Forget the past", with this smooth style entreating here I'm sure she did.

Little Willie John - Heartbreak (It's Hurtin' Me) / Do You Love Me

"Heartbreak" was a hit in 1960 for wild man Little Willie John. It's an audacious performance, as is the flip "Do You Love Me," no question mark.

Jerry Lee Lewis - High School Confidential / Fools Like Me

Sun Records
. Jerry Lee Lewis. 1958. 'Nuff Said!

The Detergents - Leader of the Laundromat / Ulcers

Those whack-a-do Detergents! Side A, "Leader of the Laundromat" is a funny spoof of "Leader of the Pack". The instrumental B side "Ulcers" is both finger and static poppin'.

The Rooftop Singers - Walk Right In / Cool Water

I dedicate these two Rooftop Singers songs to the damn heatwave that is going on here. First up is the inviting "Walk Right In", sure will if you're running the AC. As for "Cool Water", whew.

The Esquires - Get On Up / Listen To Me

This is the first of a handful of hits for The Esquires. "Get On Up", the a-side, shouts out a lot of good dances to do. "Listen To Me" is a cry from a soul that some girl ain't interested in.

Strawberry Alarm Clock - Tomorrow / Birds In My Tree

Two pretty psych pop songs top this Sunday sundae. First is the single "Tomorrow", so good. The flip is "Birds In My Tree." Open the door man, let all the good air come in - good advice, Strawberry Alarm Clock!

Chuck Bernard - Funny Changes / Every Hurt Makes You Stronger

"A Special Agent Production"

Got two Chuck Bernard sides from the Satellite Records label for you. First up is "Funny Changes". The kids would call this a Northern Soul Barnburner, as the kids are wont to do. The second song is "Every Hurt Makes You Stronger". In my opinion the scratches and pops make it stronger!

Miles Davis - New Rhumba / Slow Samba

Alrighty, it has been awhile but I am back. Turning this into a blog where I give you a taste of my immense 7 inch collection when the spirit moves me. Kicking it off with a couple of sweet Miles Davis songs.

All Tied Up (test post)

Swear, I only start these things when I'm in the middle of something. Currently I am jerry-rigging a busted washing machine and mastering the Hermetic sciences. Later, I will be drunk.
